There had never been commercial fishing or First Nation’s sustenance fishing on Aylmer Lake until this lodge opened.

In 1907, Ernest Thompson Seton, who was a prominent wildlife artist, author, and co-founder of the Boy Scouts, launched an expedition to the Northwest Territories and into Aylmer Lake.

The lake trout are found in shallow water all summer long (15 to 25 feet) making them the hardest fighting most aggressive freshwater fish you’ve battled. Arctic grayling are also plentiful, so bring your fly rod!.

You will typically be fishing either by trolling or jigging. However, fly fishing is possible.

With so much water and so few people, fishing Northwest Territories is fantastic and you’ll likely get the all the fishing you want, all to yourself.

When the lodge opened, they implemented a “catch and release” policy for huge lake trout. Over the years they have chosen to continue this policy. Although, they do keep a few smaller fish for dinner and you would like to get a trophy mounted, they are happy to accommodate that.

This fishing lodge on Aylmer Lake is as remote as they come and has MONSTER Lake trout potential with every cast!

There is no other fishing pressure period on Aylmer Lake. The only people who fish these waters are you.

During the summer months the Lake trout move into the shallow water. This allows for you to have your choice of trolling, fly fishing or jig fishing.

Aylmer Lake was the last undeveloped Canadian fishery above the treeline, located almost 300 air miles Northeast of Yellowknife and just South of the Arctic Circle.

If you are looking for breathtaking views, wildlife like you have never seen, unmatched Lake trout fishing and a trip that is as remote as they come but still being able to stay in a lodge, this one's for you.
The Fishing	These Lake trout are an incredibly aggressive and hard fighting fish that are not uncommon to reach the 40 pound mark. The current record is 58 pounds for our outfitter that was caught in 2009. In addition to these Lake trout, Arctic grayling can be caught as well!
When to Go	This far North, the fishing season is short. Dates for theses trips can be booked from the end of June through the end of August.
The Lodge	Comfortable and large enough to accomodate all group sizes, this dining room with its huge picture windows offers an AMAZING panoramic view of the bay and the surrounding hills behind the lodge. Each day there is a choice of a shore lunch or a packed lunch. You will sleep comfortably in the small cabins around the main lodge. Showers with plenty of hot water are located in the main lodge as well. Guests can expect to enjoy breakfasts and dinner each day in the spacious dining room of the lodge.
Getting There	You will fly into Yellowknife, NWT where a charter flight will be waiting to take you to the lake. Your plane will land at the bay in front of where the lodge and guest cabins overlook.
