As an overall permit fishing destination, we love the Yucatan.
The low cost and high quality of the fishing are the main reasons, plus you can fly direct to Cancun from most major US cities.

If you are looking for a Private Caribbean fishing trip look no further than La Pescadora as it provides some of the most sought after fly fishing available anywhere in the world.
La Pescadora is a must visit destination for the avid saltwater flats fishing enthusiasts and beginners alike as it not only hosts some of the best fly fishing in the Caribbean but it also emphasizes fishing above all other activities at an amazing price. We’d love to help you book this trip!
Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is home to Ascension Bay, the best place on earth to catch a Super Grand Slam (tarpon, bonefish, snook and permit.) The bay is located in the 1.3 million acre Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve which restricts all commercial net fishing and limits development. The result is a thriving saltwater flats fishing environment. This destination is a favorite of ours because of the quality of fishing, the lodge, the management, food, and ease of travel. This lodge is the best value found in saltwater angling when compared to other top destinations in the Caribbean.
We have been fishing in Ascension Bay for 15 years and have seen it prove consistent for great flats fishing in clear shallow waters. Whether you are new to saltwater or an expert, La Pescadora can accommodate you.
Our Advice is Free
I’m by no means an expert fly fisherman. I can cast pretty well, but not great. Jose and his guides were able to get me many shots at permit. I slayed the bonefish and I will be back for my permit. My advice to you, “don’t trout set!”
I have accomplished many grand and super slams with Jose as my guide and absolutely love fishing with he and his guides.
La Pescadora’s specialty is permit fishing as the lodge hires some of the best guides in Mexico who have a deep passion for guiding their clients onto these demanding fish. The lagoons and river system located inland from Ascension Bay provide blue ribbon snook and baby tarpon fishing while casting to bonefish is always possible in the skinny flats. La Pescadora utilizes 23 foot super pangas with two guides for every boat. Having a primary guide and an assistant guide allows fishermen to sight fish from a distance, jump out of the boat and stalk fish on foot which helps minimize the casting distance and can often lead to numerous opportunities at the same fish.
Two guides work in each 23 foot panga boat to ensure both anglers have opportunities to spot and stalk fish whether polling or wading the white sandy flats.
Food and Lodging
Fishing out of La Pescadora Lodge in Punta Allen is a treat. This new lodge was built in 2013 and is managed by Lily Bertram and Jose Ucan ensuring our guests are well taken care of.
All meals are prepared by local chefs with a unique flare for preparing dishes that exceed expectations. The dinners are a flavorful mix of authentic Mayan, Caribbean, and American cuisine. Breakfast cab includes fresh fruit, eggs, meats, and pancakes, and Huevos Rancheros the specialty of the house. Your lunch cooler is typically packed with sandwiches, fruit, snacks and cold beverages. All meals can be customized to meet your specific dietary needs and requests.
Trip rates are based on double occupancy and the lodge can accommodate groups of up to 8 anglers.
Just let us know your needs and we’ll ensure the Lodge is aware. The wet bar is well-stocked with a variety of liquors, wines, sodas, mixers, ice cold local beers.
Most major cities have direct flights to Cancun and the 3-hour shuttle to the lodge makes it easy to get there in one day and home in one day, thus maximizing your fishing time and minimizing your travel expense.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
La Pescadora is first and foremost a lodge for anglers. With that said, the lodge can accommodate eco-tourists and non-anglers looking for that laid-back Punta Allen lifestyle. This is a locally owned destination, so everything is authentic. The lodge will arrange for a variety of activities including snorkeling, bird watching, exploring Mayan ruins, beachcombing, and just plain relaxing. The lodge itself is located in one of the world’s largest protected wild areas – the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
The reserve covers over 1.3 million acres and has been designated by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site. The marine and wildlife in Sian Ka’an is abundant and is hard to imagine until you have seen it for yourself. You can find over 325 species of birds, four different types of marine turtles, and fish species too numerous to name. The lodge will arrange for guided tours of the Biosphere and snorkeling, or you are welcome to explore the environment on your own. Day trips to Tulum can also be arranged.
Internet / Communications
The lodge offers Wi-Fi and a computer for guests. Some U.S. cell phones may work north of Tulum (Cancun and Playa del Carmen) but once you enter the Biosphere cell service is basically nonexistent…which is a good thing!
