The Fishing Adventure
Can you feel it? You’re landing in a float plane on a pristine, high mountain lake in the Alaska backcountry. The water is so clear you can see the bottom 50 FEET DOWN. You know there are big Alaska Lake Trout to be had down there, but this is only the beginning.
After your short stay on the lake, you will pack up camp and head down 30-50 miles of virtually unfished wild and scenic river. You are already feeling the exhilaration as you know that this trip is designed for the outdoor adventure seeker, not just the weekend fisherman.
You are going to float with your team of experienced backcountry guides while casting a line to all the aggressive species that only backcountry Alaska offers. For six more days, you’ll be fishing till your shoulder hurts and feed hearty meals all along the way.
Whether bait casting, fly casting, or both, you’ll be hunting for King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silvers, Monster Rainbow and Bull Trout (Dolly Varden), and big aggressive Alaska Grayling. You may hook into a chum salmon or pike along the way to add to one of the most exhilarating multi species sight fishing of a lifetime.
The prime fishing season on these rivers and lakes is the later part of June through September. The difficulty rating for the trip is med high however, the experienced outfitter will put you in the water based on your situation and experience.
This is a very limited trip so please make your reservations as early as possible.
Our Advice is Free
This Alaskan fishing adventure is the reason we create our bucket lists in the first place. After taking this trip I can say I highly recommend it as one of my all time favorite weeks in my lifetime.
The guides are very professional outdoorsman and excellent fisherman with first hand Alaska knowledge. They will provide advice and gear if you like, or leave to you to bring your own. You camp and eat with your guides along the river, and their tales of the Alaskan adventure are always entertaining.
When you see your guides chest deep in the water clearing deadfall for you, it is abundantly clear the type of gratuity they deserved. These guys work hard, and I always try to bring a gift of some sort, maybe some nice fishing gear they don’t have yet. The head guide made a few comments about my vest so I took it off and gave it to him before we departed our sandbar for home.
Food and Lodging
You will be camping in nice four-season dome tents, and sleeping on great, portable low profile cots. You will eat home cooked meat and potato style meals.
Hint: stick a pillow in your water resistant backpack. Pack what you would for an all-weather trip. Alaska can and probably will throw any and all types of weather at you, so be prepared.
Arrive in Bethel on Monday, or on the earliest flight possible on Tuesday morning. You will be ushered by float plane into your camp. On the following Tuesday, you will be picked up on a sand bar somewhere on the river banks and be flown back to Bethel. Just watching the bush pilot land the float plane on the sand bar is worth the price of admission.
Please take the latest flight possible out of Bethel on Tuesday night, or an overnight stay in Bethel the next day makes for more stress-free travel. When you leave Bethel all bush plane flights and/or boat pickups are included. It is Alaska so weather delays before or after your trip are always a consideration.
